A Thane district autorickshaw driver was reportedly swindled of Rs 10.6 lakh by a con artist who promised to secure a railway job for his son, according to police reports on Monday.

Following a complaint, the police have filed a case against Kiran Bhau Dalvi, a Murbad resident, for criminal breach of trust, cheating, and forgery.

In March 2022, the accused approached the victim with a promise to secure a railway job for his son. He allegedly provided a promissory note along with forged letters from the Railways.

The accused collected Rs 10.6 lakh from the complainant over time but failed to provide any updates on the job or return the money, the official stated. No arrests have been made yet, and an investigation is ongoing to determine if there are additional suspects involved in the crime.
