A 26-year-old woman passenger was allegedly raped by a driver of a private sleeper bus traveling from Nirmal district in Telangana to Prakasam in Andhra Pradesh, police reported on Tuesday. The woman contacted 'Dial 100' and informed the police about the incident just after midnight on Monday, while the bus was on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Police intercepted the bus, and when it slowed down near the Mettuguda area, the accused driver fled, according to a police official. The woman recounted that one of the bus drivers put a blanket in her mouth and raped her on the moving bus, despite the presence of other passengers.

The individual who was driving the bus at the time was taken into custody and is being questioned. The woman was sent to a hospital, and a case has been registered at Osmania University police station. Further investigation is ongoing.
